Longhorn Smokehouse BBQ
Where the Heart of Texas Hill Country meets the pura vida of Costa Rica’s Pacific coast.
What began as a search for authentic barbecue in Costa Rica turned into something bigger: a mission to bring true Texas flavor to the Pacific coast while embracing the community around us. When brisket, ribs, or even a simple burger proved hard to find, the answer wasn’t to keep searching, it was to create it, and to make sure it served a greater good.
That’s the spirit our co-founders carried forward. Jonathan, a former bull rider, pitmaster, and tech nerd from Central Texas who moved to Costa Rica after the pandemic, built a smoker and began cooking for friends. Word spread quickly, and a backyard hobby grew into a business supplying markets, restaurants, and hungry locals. Among his early customers was Patrick, a city slicker with decades of nightclub experience, who knew firsthand how rare great meat was in Costa Rica. Together, they teamed up, combining passion with know-how to build Longhorn Smokehouse BBQ.
Every cut of meat is smoked low and slow in true Texas style, kissed with the flavor of Costa Rican hardwoods like Nancita, Guacimo, Mora Amarilla, and even coconut husk.
But Longhorn Smokehouse BBQ is about more than food. In 2022, Jonathan met Molly, one of an estimated 1.6 million street dogs in Costa Rica. Today, she’s our official greeter, mascot, and daily reminder of why we give back. Her story inspired Molly Meals, our outreach program providing food and donations to local schools, youth athletic programs, and educational charities including CEPIA. And with every order of our popular Molly’s Plate, we donate 10% directly to Hope 4 a Street Dog, helping provide medical care, food, and shelter for dogs in need.
From juicy brisket and fall-off-the-bone ribs to burgers ground in-house from brisket trimmings, every dish is crafted with care. Our wings, fresh-cut fries, onion rings, and authentic Texas chili (no beans!) round out a menu that blends tradition with a tropical twist.
